Recipe
Rangers in the West is not just another cookbook. And it's not just another
travel book. It's both a travel book and a cookbook. And it's neither. And,
it's more than a book, whatever category you want to give it. Recipe Rangers
in the West is a book/web adventure, which is why we put together this
website.
We've been told it's bound to be a great gift item for RVers who like out-of-the-way
places. And for people who like to make interesting stops in not-so-far-out-of-the-way
places like, say, San Jose
where we tell you where to find the source
of the world's best garlic bread (which is where we got our recipe).
The book is also for anybody who likes to cook...and eat. It's also for Type
3 types: people with the chutzpah to try out recipe trading themselves. Recipe
trading is a great way to strike up relationships with people who are just
bound to have interesting stories. If you want a free sample from the book,
click on the link and download a chunk of sample pages from the book itself.
Or click on the picture of the cover on this page.
We could go on and on, of course. But if you want to find out for yourself
what sort of people would do something off-the-wall like travel around in
a near-antique RV setup talking to people, click on our picture to your left.
Would it be cheating to say that there are hints in the book? Maybe you ought
to be the very first on your block to own copy. Bet you'll like it.

RECIPES, of course. Clever, delicious and sometimes adventurous. You're not going to find these dishes served at Denny's. Most have been acquired in exchange for the secret of Ultimate Dressing. There's lots of variety...and no shortage of flavor.
INTERLUDES, on several topics of culinary interest for people who like to cook. These include some instructive whimsies, like the myth of Ajo and Olivia and the origin of recipes.
PLACES TO VISIT, many of which are well off the beaten path and not widely known. How about Burro Schmidt's tunnel for starters? Or the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad yard? Curious folks can get some visual impressions of both these places by clicking on the above links to our photo album pages.
TALES of encounters with interesting (and some quite remarkable) folk who share a love of the road and a love of cooking. You will also learn about Louie, our very own endangered species from Eureka, CA, and his special fondness for shrimp.
MAPS and GETTING THERE info. Each place we visited and describe has a map and handy blurb with real "been there-done that" info that you won't find anywhere else.
