A lot has happened in this vicinity. First there was the installation of the Hone overdrive unit that The Owner had been carting around for three decades awaiting just the proper moment. That was back in 1995 and meant new mounts and drivelines. The poor Hone lasted about a hundred miles before roasting itself and has hopefully been recycled by now. Was there really supposed to be oil in its planetary gearbox?
A few years ago the orginal transfer case went to gearbox heaven and was replaced with a "bulletproof" NP225. More crossmember relocations and drivelines.
After many years of shifting and waiting for the future, Big Red has gone shiftless. With the help of a new crossmember, expensive adapters and even more surgically altered drivelines, Big Red now cruises at much lower revs thanks to a hot TH700R-4 overdrive automatic. And buckets of money.
If anybody knows the whereabouts of a suitable low profile 8' utility body, Big Red would love to retire his overworked old bed and become compartmentalized. Don't hesitate to email Big Red's owner.
Originally a 307,under the hood is now is a mostly stock 350 Chevy small block. Big Red has stated explicitly that he wants to become a Torque Monster by swapping in a 383 with some really efficient heads. If dreams came true there would also be a fuel injection system. Meantime Big Red's bonnet has recently been enhanced with a new Edelbrock quad and headers. He's never run so well. For 2010 -- and after much wheedling -- he is being fitted with a disk brake equipped front axle that once belonged to a 1972 Blazer. Soon he will be able to stop almost as well as he can go.
